Roof insurance and deductibles in Texas

Know what your policy says before deciding whether to file a claim or sign a contract.

The deductible is your responsibility

Texas law prohibits roofing contractors from offering to waive or rebate an insurance deductible. The Texas Department of Insurance warns homeowners to be skeptical of proposals that promise to absorb it.

Your actual coverage depends on your policy, including exclusions, depreciation, limits and any separate wind or hail deductible.

Keep the roles clear

A roofer can describe observed damage and price a repair, but do not assume a roofer may represent you or negotiate your claim as a public adjuster. The Texas Department of Insurance explains restrictions on combining contractor and adjuster roles.

If you have questions about an adjuster’s determination, contact your insurer or a properly authorized adviser.

Build a documented file

Store photos, your claim number, adjuster communications, repair bids, receipts and dates in one folder. Request the contractor’s final scope before work starts and preserve signed changes.

We do not file claims, provide insurance advice or communicate with insurers for homeowners.
